What is Reverse Osmosis (RO)
Reverse osmosis (RO) is a pressure-driven membrane process that separates dissolved solids, salts, and many other contaminants from a water supply. Feed water is pushed against a semi-permeable membrane; purified permeate passes through, while the rejected concentrate carries dissolved contaminants to drain.
In commercial and industrial settings, an RO system is rarely a single piece of equipment. It is a treatment train: pretreatment such as filtration, carbon, and softening protects the membranes, the RO unit produces the purified water, and downstream storage, repressurization, and polishing deliver it where it is needed at the quality the application requires.
EnviroH2O evaluates incoming water quality, the target quality your application requires, and the operating conditions of the facility before recommending a configuration. That approach keeps membranes protected, reduces avoidable service events, and keeps water quality consistent.
APPLICATIONS
• Sterile processing and instrument reprocessing
• Surgical instrument washers and steam sterilizers
• Laboratory and analytical water feeds
• Boiler cooling system makeup water
• Manufacturing rinse water and process water
• Pretreatment ahead of deionization
— PROBLEMS SOLVED
What this addresses
High total dissolved solids
Elevated TDS can interfere with processes, equipment, and applications that depend on consistent, high-quality water.
Inconsistent water quality
Seasonal or municipal supply variation can move water quality outside the range an application was designed around.
Scaling and fouling downstream
Dissolved minerals carried into boilers, heat exchangers, sterilizers, and process equipment can form scale and reduce performance.
Underperforming existing RO
Neglected pretreatment, fouled membranes, and drifting operating conditions gradually degrade output quality and recovery.
— HOW IT WORKS
From incoming water to point of use
01
Pretreatment
Sediment filtration, carbon filtration, and softening remove particulate, chlorine, and hardness that would otherwise foul or damage membranes.
02
Pressurization
A pump raises feed pressure above the osmotic pressure of the water so separation can occur across the membrane surface.
03
Membrane seperation
Water passes through spiral-wound membrane elements; dissolved solids and other rejected contaminants leave as concentrate.
04
Storage & distribution
Permeate is stored, repressurized, and distributed to points of use, with polishing such as deionization added when the application requires higher purity.
— BENEFITS
What you get
Consistent, high-quality water
Systems are sized and configured around the water quality your application actually needs, not a generic template.
Equipment Protection
Correct pretreatment and monitoring protect both the RO membranes and the downstream equipment they feed.
Serviecable Design
Layout, access, and instrumentation are considered up front so routine maintenance is straightforward.

— SERVICE & MAINTENANCE
Support that continues after install
EnviroH2O services and maintains RO systems we install as well as existing systems installed by others. That includes preventive maintenance, membrane replacement, cartridge and media changes, performance evaluation, troubleshooting, and repair.
If your current RO system is producing water outside its expected quality range, running longer than it used to, or has become unreliable, we can evaluate the system and its pretreatment and recommend a path forward.
